Transportation Eligibility Request for General Education Students for the
2020-2021 School Year
It is the mission of the Cartwright School District’s Transportation Department to transport students to and from school in a safe, efficient, dependable, professional and courteous manner, while providing the highest quality of support for educational programs by delivering the best possible transportation services.
Bus transportation is not mandated by the legislature, but a privilege offered by the Cartwright School District. Transportation services will be offered to:
Elementary students – Kindergarten through eighth grade students who are residents within a school attendance area and who live more than one radial mile from school.
Transportation services are offered to the following school sites for general education students: RH Castro Academy of Fine Arts, Peña Elementary, Heatherbrae Elementary, Holiday Park Elementary, Spitalny Elementary, Sunset Elementary, Atkinson Middle School, Tarver Elementary, Desert Sands Middle School, Estrella Middle School, and eligible gifted students.
Special Education students – Students with disabilities who require transportations, as indicated in their respective individual education plan (IEP).
All other students will be considered ineligible for transportation to and from school.
Students who are not eligible for bus transportation, such as students within walking boundaries and Open Enrollment students may apply for District transportation on a regular education bus route within the attendance boundaries of the school to which the student is
enrolled. Transportation of a non-eligible bus transportation students is subject to the flowing
conditions:
- The Transportation Application is must be submitted to the Transportation District (online or at the school) completed. Any incomplete applications will not be processed.
- Bus routes will be assigned to the student in the order that the Transportation
application is received
- The Transportation Department will review Transportation applications submitted
during the school year in the order they are received and notify parents once the
student is eligible to ride the bus. Please allow 3 to 5 business days for this to be
processed.
- The Parent/Guardian is responsible to ensure that their student arrives to the
designated bus stop 10 minutes prior to the pickup time.
- Kindergarten students must be accompanied by the parent/guardian in the morning to the stop. The parent/guardian must receive the kindergarten student at the afternoon drop off time at the designated stop. Any kindergarten student whose parent/guardian is not at the stop will be returned to the school for the parent to pickup.
- The Transpiration Department will review each applicant’s request and authorize
transportation based on capacity on the selected bus route.
- An application for Transportation must be applied for each new school year.
- The Transportation Department will notify the parent/guardian once the transportation application has been approved.
- Bus stop location, route numbers and pick up/drop off times are subject to change.
- Upon written notification to the parent/guardian, the District may revoke a student’s eligibility to ride the bus at any time and for any reason, including but not limited to, capacity no longer existing on the assigned route and/or disciplinary issues occurring on the bus.
