This is the image for the news article titled Governing Board Members Attend Aguila EventAguila Youth Leadership Institute's Quince Años de Excelencia celebration brought out big names this past weekend in Tempe, Arizona. Cartwright Governing Board President Marissa Hernandez and Vice President Denice Garcia were in attendance, as was the special guest, Arizona House of Representative member, Isela Blanc. The Institute celebrated 15 years in operation. It was was founded by Rosemary Ybarra-Hernandez, who became frustrated with the lack of information and guidance that existed for college applicants in the Hispanic community.

Superintendent Dr. LeeAnn Aguilar-Lawlor, Assistant Superintendents Dr. Rebecca Osuna, Zeek Ojeh and Ema Jauregui also attended the event. Jauregui and Assistant Director of STEM and College and Career, Deborah Keunzli are instrumental in making sure the program reaches our students and that they are prepared for a bright future. They both do a tremendous job and we are so thankful to them!

The Institute has been working with Cartwright students for the past four years. The program exposes them to mentoring, prepares them for college, the application process and works to find funding and grants for the program. Currently, there are more than 300 Cartwright students participating in the Aguila Youth Leadership Institute. If you would like more information about the program and how to sign up your child, call Deborah Kuenzli at 623-691-2068.
