Community Leaders pose for Superintendent Award at Board Meeting

Last October, Gus the Garden Bus near Bret R. Tarver Elementary, was vandalized and the Phoenix Firefighter that responded to that call became one of Cartwright’s biggest advocates. Firefighter Austin Moreland coordinated more than 200 police and firefighter volunteers to help during a Day of Service to rebuild a new Cartwright Community Garden after that tragedy. Other leaders in our community helped with materials, food and support. Our community partners provided the perfect combination of leadership and motivation to make the day a huge success.

Because of their efforts, they all received the Superintendent's Award of Excellence during the February 7th Board Meeting. Here is the list of recipients:

*Austin Moreland, Phoenix Fire Department,

*Jeffrey Cichosz, Phoenix Law Enforcement Association

*Veronica Lumpkin, Phoenix Police Department

*David Barrios of City of Phoenix Police Labor Enforcement

*Kim Owens, Devin Del Palacio of Year Up

*Brad Shire of Phoenix Rescue Mission

*Glenn Horton of Performance Food Group

*Eddie Cruz of the United Way
