The Superintendent of Schools is the Chief Executive Officer of the district, responsible for administering the policies of the school district, hiring all personnel and providing the administrative leadership for the operation of schools.


Dr. Jacob A. Chávez is the Superintendent of the Cartwright School District, effective April 28, 2011.  Dr. Chávez served as Interim Superintendent since January of 2011. From 2008'2011, Dr. Chávez was the Assistant Superintendent of Administration Services for the Cartwright School District.  Prior to serving in that capacity, he served for three years as Cartwright School District's Director of Federal Projects and Grant Development.  He came to Cartwright District after serving as a principal in the Tempe Elementary School District and as a principal and assistant principal in the Isaac School District.  With over 26 years in education, Dr. Chávez brings a wealth of knowledge to his new position of Superintendent.  Dr. Chávez currently serves as a member of the School-Based Health Centers Board and the Maryvale West Community Council.
