Child Find

The extended school year means additional special education and related services for pupils with disabilities to supplement the normal school year. These services are provided as part of a free appropriate public education (FAPE) and documented on the student's IEP.

The Arizona initiative for Child Find is referred to as AZ FIND. Child Find is a component of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004 (IDEA ’04) that requires states to locate, identify, and evaluate all children with disabilities, ages birth through 21 years, who are in need of early intervention or special education services.

If you are the parent of a child ages 2 years 10 ½ months to 5 years or know of a preschool-age child within the Cartwright School District with suspected developmental delays in cognitive, social, self-help, motor, language, vision, or hearing please contact the following for a Developmental Screening:

Developmental screenings and evaluations are free. All information contained in the screening or evaluation is confidential.

Contact the school your child is currently attending if you have concerns regarding their development (school age–21 years).

Cartwright School District Early Childhood Preschool Program

Children ages 3-5 years who are identified through Child Find and the Arizona Early Intervention Program (AzEIP) as having developmental delays can receive therapeutic services at the Early Childhood Preschool Program. Services may include: occupational, physical, speech, vision, and/or hearing therapy within a developmental preschool setting. Children who receive services must reside within the Cartwright School District.

Preschool Screening

Parents with concerns about their 2.5 to 5 years old child's development are invited to participate in free screenings at Cartwright School District's Early Childhood Preschool program.

Children will be screened in developmental areas, including cognitive/language, motor and self-help/social. If you are concerned and would like some more information about Child Find, and/or would like to refer a child, please call (623) 691-5700.
