Cartwright Superintendent Dr. Jacob A. Chavez was honored to receive a Heart Hero Award from the American Heart Association. The award was presented to him during the Governing Board Meeting on June 27, 2018. Dr. Chavez has championed heart health for his employees, as well as the students and families in the Cartwright School District. The district conducted a Check, Change and Control Blood Pressure Challenge for all employees – promoting self-monitoring of their blood pressure.  Dr. Chavez even served as the spokesperson for the PLAY 60 Challenge with the Arizona Cardinals and was hands-on with the Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart programs. He congratulated participating schools for the dollars they raised and recruited schools that were unresponsive.  This helped the American Heart Association save events and attain greater participation and dollars for the mission.  He also believes in the importance of CPR. The Cartwright School District received three CPR Schools kits that will be used to train students and faculty on Hands-Only CPR.
