PLC and STEM Department Mission and Vision:

The mission of the PLC and STEM Department is to model the Professional Learning Communities process and concepts while focusing on continuous improvement in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and preparing all students for high-school and beyond.

Our vision is for Professional Learning Communities to become the essence of who we are as an educational community, committed to continuous improvement where every child has equal access to all content areas to ensure that all students are college and career ready. We aspire to develop 21st century skills where the integration of technology is a natural part of the instructional day.

Ema Jáuregui began her career teaching in a K-8. She continued her teaching experience as a middle school teacher at Estrella Middle School. She entered school administration as the assistant principal of a preschool. Then she served as an assistant principal in a K-5, k-8 and middle school for 6 years. She spent 6 years as the principal of a K-5 at John F. Long School. Ema now serves as the director of STEM/PLC.

Deborah Kuenzli

Deborah Kuenzli began her career in education teaching kindergarten in 1992. She taught kindergarten, first, and second grade before becoming an administrator in 2003. Deborah has been employed in the Cartwright School District since July of 2005 when she became the Reading Interventionist at Heatherbrae Elementary School. In 2006, she became the assistant principal at Peralta Elementary School where she worked for seven years. In 2013, she became the principal at Starlight Park Elementary School. In July 2015, she joined the Educational Services department as the Assistant Director of Mathematics and Science.

Arturo Sanchez began in Cartwright as a classroom sweeper and teachers aide before becoming a teacher in 1997. He began teaching as an 8th grade teacher in Special Education, math, science, and reading. Arturo worked in the Alhambra and Murphy school districts before becoming the principal of G. Frank Davidson in 2008 which he held until 2017. Arturo is an alumni of Sunset School and Desert Sands Middle School.

Jasmine Cerna

 Jasmine Cerna has worked for the Cartwright School District for 3 years. She worked her first two years at John F. Long School and now she is the Administrative Specialist for the STEM and PLC Deptartment in Educational Services. She is originally from Burbank, California but has lived in Arizona for 10 years. She earned her Associates of Applied Science at EMCC and id currently on the waiting list to start the RN-BSN nursing program at GCC/NAU. She enjoys hiking, shopping and traveling with family and friends in her free time.
